Gimme back my son!!

Anybody who is a fan of The Jim Rome Show will understand the title of this post. I decided to search for videos with Rome earlier and I found that some of his "clones" decided to use their membership privileges on his website and repost on YouTube. Some of thees sound clips are classic.

Before I post them, let me familiarize those who have never been fortunate enough to listen to Rome. He is a communications major who started a radio show around San Diego in the early 90's. In 1996 his show became syndicated and today is around the 20th most listened to talk show host in the country. The show is notable for its bumper music at the top/bottom of the hour. At the top of the hour the Iggy Pop song 'Lust for Life' is played. The song played at the bottom of the hour is the classic 'Welcome to the Jungle' by Guns N Roses, and fittingly the show is called "The Jungle."

The show is built around Rome's sarcastic sense of humor and his talk of "smack", which has resulted in him being given the nickname "Van Smack." As a result, many of the callers attempt this form of talk when Rome goes to the phones. This also results in callers making fun of the other callers on the air. Rome will "run" a caller if they are having trouble making their point or violate one of the "rules" he's laid out over the years. It usually results in the caller being ridiculed in some manner after the caller is run. As a result, listeners are not encouraged to call into the show until they are familiar with the format. Rome usually doesn't take as many calls as other talk shows do, saying that "more of me and less of you is better for the show." He usually reads quite a few emails during the show, and most of these are highly entertaining. After an especially entertaining take on something, Rome will often read emails that read Rome I had to pull over to keep from wrecking or Jim I just spit coffee all over my monitor. Interviews with athletes or other celebrities occur usually three times a day, once every hour.

Rome has also been on TV since the early 90's as well. In 1994 he gained notoriety when he had NFL QB Jim Everett on his show, Talk2. In the 1989 NFC Championship game against the 49ers Everett was hit/sacked by the 49er defense so often that on one occasion he hit the deck merely in anticipation of the rushing defense. He later commented that his confidence was never fully restored from this. Rome began to call him "Chris" Everett (referring to female tennis star Chris Everett) and one day Everett appeared on his show. This was the result.

After Talk2, Rome went on to host The FX Sports Show and The Last Word. In 2003 Rome returned to ESPN with Rome is Burning, which was on once a week for an hour. A couple minor changes were made in '04, but in 2005 Rome's show began airing five days a week for half an hour. Currently it airs at 3:30 CST.

So now that you know a little about Jim Rome, let me post some hilarious/famous "takes" he's had in the last couple years:
